Plenary Session 1
- 13:00–13:03Welcome
- 13:03–13:07Introductions
- 13:07–13:47Drug Update 2026
Dr. Charles LyndeImmunology continues to touch all of our lives as dermatologists. The research and
development pipeline remains exciting into the year 2027. We have moved beyond the large-scale "biologics era" in psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. We are seeing the development of increasingly "fine tuned" molecules for dermatology conditions. There continues to be a bunch of new molecules coming to market in the dermatology space. JAK Inhibitors have officially been prescribed in our practices for four years now in atopic dermatitis. We now have good "real world" experience with these molecules.
We saw the launch of Nemluvio for atopic dermatitis and prurigo nodularis this year! For the first time since 2014 there has been no new treatment for chronic spontaneous urticaria until remibrutinib (BTK inhibitor) and dupilumab. lcotrokinra has shown biological efficacy in small molecules for psoriasis.
Conditions such as vitiligo, alopecia areata, hidradenitis suppurativa, prurigo nodularis have shifted into the focus for much of the new dermatology pharmaceutical industry research and development. This presentation will provide an overview on what dermatology drugs are new to the market, the status of current clinical trials and an overview of the current landscape in dermatology drug development.Learning objectives- To be familiar with key dermatological therapeutics of 2026, and what's in the pipeline for 2027 and beyond
- To translate this information into our rapidly changing dermatologic practices
- 13:47–14:17The Trade Dispute: Effect on Canadian Derm Practices
Mark McElwainThe Canada-US trade dispute will inflict damage on several sectors of the Canadian economy, but health care providers are to be largely exempt from counter-tariffs on medical equipment. There could be longer-term impacts on pharmaceutical pricing and patient access. The sector will need to monitor carefully as the dispute evolves.
Learning objectives- Review the scope and current status of US-Canada tariffs and counter-tariffs.
- Identify key impacts facing dermatology practices, with focus on medical equipment and pharmaceuticals.
- Examine health-care provider exemptions from counter-tariffs
