- 13:13–13:33East Meets Evidence: What Your Patients Are Putting on Their Skin, and Why It Matters
Dr. Kyle O. LeeTraditional Chinese Medicine and other complementary therapies shape how many of our patients understand their eczema and psoriasis, from their fear of steroids to their choice of "natural" creams, yet these influences are often overlooked in clinical practice. As scientists, we aim to keep an open mind and follow the evidence, including how traditional remedies such as indigo naturalis helped point the way to modern therapies that target the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) . This rapid-fire session will introduce clinicians and industry leaders to recognize the current evidence of select alternative health products, potential herb–drug interactions, improve communicate across cultural beliefs, and stay candid about the limits of alternative treatments.
Learning objectives- Describe the latest evidence linking select traditional remedies to current dermatologic therapies, such as aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) modulation.
- Apply culturally informed strategies to improve adherence and address health beliefs, including steroid phobia, in diverse patient populations.
- Recognize the most common herb–drug interactions in patients receiving advanced dermatologic therapies.
- Review clinical presentations and consequences of unregulated topical products, such as undeclared corticosteroids.
- 13:33–13:40Q&A
