- 10:03–10:33Scarring and Non Scarring Alopecias: What I do
Dr. Jerry ShapiroNew treatments within the past 5 years will be presented. We have a new armamentarium of treatments including JAK inhibitors, Low dose oral minoxidil, Platelet Rich Plasma, Folix laser, and low-level light therapy will be presented and how they can be integrated into your previous treatments. The modalities for hair loss have been revolutionized, and every dermatologist must be aware of the mechanism of action, efficacy, and side effect profile. Algorithms will be presented. We are at the cusp of incredible treatments. What is in the pipeline will be presented such as extended release minoxidil and stem cell activators. The circadian rhythm of the hair follicle and when medications should be given will be discussed.
Learning objectives- Audience will have an organized approach to treating Lichen Planopilaris, Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia, Fibrosing Alopecia of a Patterned Distribution, Folliculitis Decalvans, Dissecting cellulitis, Alopecia Areata, Telogen Effluvium, Male and Female Pattern Hair Loss. Each entity will be discussed in detail.
- 10:33–11:03How to Tame your Virus
Dr. Stephen K. TyringOncolytic herpes simplex virus (HSV)-based therapies have demonstrated meaningful clinical activity in advanced melanoma, including patients with disease progression after immune checkpoint inhibition. Emerging data and trials suggest benefit in selected nonmelanoma skin cancers. In DEB, topical beremagene geperpavec-svdt (B-VEC) has established viral vector-mediated gene therapy as an effective treatment capable of promoting durable wound closure and improving quality of life. Additional applications, including vaccine-mediated immune modulation and in vivo cellular therapies, remain investigational.
Learning objectives- Provide a practical review of currently available and emerging viral vector therapies relevant to dermatologic practice;
- Understand oncolytic virotherapy;
- Review topical gene therapy;
- Explore vaccine-based immune modulation.
- 11:03–11:10Q&A
