Atopic dermatitis remains a common yet challenging cutaneous disorder. Recent breakthroughs in the understanding of the basic science of this disorder have allowed new therapies to be introduced. Many of the newest therapies are not steroid based and offer options for patients in both topical and systemic formulations. This discussion will focus on new and emerging therapies as well as arenas in atopic dermatitis that help understand the impact of the disorder on our patients and their families.
