Dr. Bryce J. Cowan

Dr. Bryce Cowan is a plastic surgeon and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He received his medical degree from the University of Toronto after completing a Master’s degree in regenerative tissue healing. As a member of the combined MD/PhD program. Dr. Cowan received his PhD research training, in Pathology, at the Hospital for Sick Children, studying the immune regulation of cellular and matrix tissue in wound healing and disease. Dr. Cowan completed residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Calgary in 2004, with a strong interest in facial reconstruction and cosmetic surgery. He saw Mohs surgery as a unique way of combining his interests in both pathology and surgery. In June 2005, he completed fellowship training in Mohs surgery at the University of British Columbia, becoming the first plastic surgeon in Canada certified in Mohs surgery by the American College of Mohs Surgery.

As Clinical Assistant Professor at the UBC’s Department of Dermatology and Skin Science, he remains one of only two plastic surgeons in Canada, certified in Mohs Surgery. He has mentored 17 ACMS surgical fellows and numerous residents. Dr. Cowan has an private cosmetic surgery practice and one of Canada’s largest Mohs practices.
