A Clinical Pathway for Atopic Dermatitis Patients – a Case-Based Approach
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common, chronic, relapsing skin disease, which has a significant impact on quality of life, not only of the affected individual, but also of the family. Although there are several guidelines that review available treatments, it is not always easy for clinicians to determine which treatments a specific patient should receive.
A group of dermatologists from across Canada met at a previous Dermatology Update meeting, to develop clinical cases which could be used to guide clinicians treating patients with similar clinical features, and ultimately optimize patient care. Seven cases demonstrating different common clinical features of AD were developed. Acute and maintenance treatments for mild, moderate and severe disease were recommended based on literature searches, review of current guidelines, and group discussion.
